The annual Aussie Day Weekend Cruise is a goer!
Come and join us from Saturday 26 January through to Monday 28 January for a relaxing and sociable couple of days on your yacht or your motor boat. Or you may choose to join us for only one night; and that’s OK, too.
If you are new to cruising this is an ideal opportunity for you to venture out in the close company of very experienced boating people who will assist you throughout the cruise ensuring you have support if required.
The emphasis will be on convoying to a destination(s) and anchoring out. Depending on the weather possible destinations include; Cobb Bluff, Spit Point, Corinella, Rhyll, Observation Point/Silver Leaves, Sandy Point, Warneet and Chicory Lane.
We will meet at 0900 hrs (9:00 a.m.) sharp in the lower floor of the club rooms on Saturday to, depending on the weather and members input, finalise plans and then depart from the marina immediately following this briefing.
Safety & Provisioning Requirements
As we are planning to stay out over possibly two nights, each boat will need adequate supplies of food, water and fuel. These supplies should include food for all on-board meals, water, ice, warm clothing, wet weather gear, and sleeping gear, etc.
Please ensure you have a GPS system or a reasonably up-to-date map of the bay
On anchoring overnight, to meet regulations, you will need a means of maintaining a white light visible all round from the rigging or mast head. Alternatively, this can be a battery-powered lantern hung from the boom – but it should be maintained all night.
We request all boats to maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 16 for general contact while underway.
Normal safety gear should be carried. You must also comply with life jacket legislation that includes wearing life jackets when using a dinghy.
Please note that the decision to join the group and/or continue sailing in the case of bad weather will rest entirely with each individual skipper on the day.
Dinghies
Many boats will have dinghies, and these may be available to ferry people ashore or between boats. It will not be necessary for all boats to have a dinghy but bring it along if you have one. The possibility of going ashore by dinghies will depend upon where we stop and the state of the beach.
This should be an easy-going fun weekend as well as a celebration of our national day, so display the flag proudly.
Please advise your interest by contacting Stan Jackson at communicate@nys.org.au or 0417 318 629.
As we would like to issue all boat owners with the details of all other boats participating on the day, we would appreciate your confirmation that you will be joining us by 20 January. The information required includes: boat name and make, skipper and partner’s names, mobile phone number, number expected to be on board.
